Bathroom Reno: Part 1

So, this is part 1.  Now I'm not completely sure how many "parts" there will be, but there will be several!  This first part is about my sink and faucet!  AND I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

My husband builds custom made, rustic furniture.  For those of you who know his furniture, you know it's AWESOME!  For those of you who don't...well, it's AWESOME!!! hehe

Since he's so handy with the furniture building, we have decided that he is going to build the bathroom vanity.  It's going to have that whole rustic, country, shabby chic feel.  So we knew from the get-go that was the plan, but the top was another story.  We had found a granite counter-top with a built in sink at Home Depot for about $200.00.  That was just the counter-top and sink.  We still had to buy a faucet.  Well that is what we had planned to go with.  It seemed reasonable enough as far as price goes.  And it was pretty.  But Chris and I got to talking and thinking of ways that we could save more money and still get the look and feel we wanted.  We remembered we had an old coffee table that Chris brought home that was broken and someone had thrown out.  It had beautiful wood grain, but was caked with old stain and polyurethane.  So we decided to stripe, sand, stain, and poly it again....but better!  And use it for our vanity top.  Well, once we made that decision we had to find a sink and faucet.

SOOOO!!!  That's where the fun began!  I started searching the internet up and down for the "perfect" sink and faucet.  In case you have forgotten, we want the rustic, country feel.  I had my work cut out for me.  My goal was to get the sink and faucet for less than what we would have paid for the granite pre-made counter-top.

It took me about 3 days to finally find the sink that I knew would be perfect!!

Isn't she perfect!!!!  It has that ole' country feel.  Like something my granny would have had in her ole' home place.  It's a vessel sink, so it will just sit right on top of the counter-top.  I knew I had to have it!  And guess what it cost!  Drum Roll PLEASE!!!  $30.00!  That's right!  $30.00!!  I got the choice of chrome, oil rubbed bronze, and something else for the drain.  I picked oil rubbed bronze.

After I found the sink, I had to find the faucet!  Off I went to search some more.  It took another 3-5 days for me to find the perfect faucet.  I thought finding the faucet would be the easy part.  It turned out to be harder to find than the sink.  I had it narrowed down to 2 different faucets.  An old well pump looking faucet and a wall mount faucet that looked like something I saw in my granny's old house.  Now, the old well pump look is what I wanted, but it was a little out of my price range.....about $300.00 out of my price range! So, I went with the more affordable faucet.

I love that it has that rustic, but vintage look.  And it was only.....$100.00!!  I found it odd that the faucet was more than the sink, but that was the cheapest faucet I could find...without sacrificing the look and feel I wanted.  And I made my goal....to stay under $200.00!  I got the sink, faucet, and the counter-top for $130.00!!!! I have mad skills!!! I saved us $70.00!  YAY ME!

I think we are off to a wonderful start!  I hope to be posting some pics of the completed vanity in the next week or so.  Hubby is supposed to start building it tomorrow.  And it won't take him long.  Once he gets started he won't stop until it's done!

Now the hard part....picking a paint color!!!  Decisions, decisions!  What is a girl to do?

Until next time....
Blessings~

  5. You DO have mad skillz! You can come redesign my not-so chic, mid '80s, paneled, ripped out floor that never got replaced, nasty looking master bath anytime. You know, in case you need practice or just a good challenge!

  8. Jasmine, thank you so much:) We are super excited! And hubby and I just decided for SURE that we want to do a claw foot tub (which is what I originally wanted, but didn't think I'd be able to find one. However, after only looking for 1 day I found several!!)...instead of a walk in shower. So, I think I'm even more EXCITED about that:)

    Many Blessings!
